Meet KMK, Top Sacramento Wedding Planner

March 2, 2020

Meet Kirsten Kakarigi, top Sacramento wedding planner and owner of KMK Design, Northern California’s best event planning company.

As owner of KMK Design, I plan my days playing with fabric swatches, attending food tastings, and hanging out in some amazing venues. At least that’s what everyone thinks I do! Ah, the lavish lifestyle of an event planner. What it’s really like… returning a bazillion emails, meetings galore, checking off my (never ending) to-do lists, and keeping my wonderful clients happy and calm. As hectic as it can be, I wouldn’t trade my job of the world. I’m thankful to follow my passion and I love what I do.

I have always had a knack for design.

I have always had a knack for interior design. Specifically, for interior design. As a young child, I would rearrange and redecorate my bedroom regularly. Instead of toys for Christmas, I would ask for new bedroom furniture. I know that I got the design bug from my maternal grandmother, Marie. She was a natural designer. She had an affinity for creating beautiful spaces. Her house was always perfectly styled.

Growing up, my love of decorating continued. I was inspired by my Grandma to follow my passion and get my degree in Interior Design. I loved learning about design and dreamed of one day owning a residential interior design business. However, my path was changed when I was invited by two of my fellow students to join them in their new event planning business. They were two of theKirsten Kakarigi, top Sacramento wedding planner, designs a table setting at her studio in Old Roseville. most creative and lovely girls that I had ever met and I jumped at the opportunity to work with them. I knew nothing about event planning, but I quickly learned that the process of event planning is just like the process of interior design. You meet with new clients, learn about their personalities, see their vision, then begin crafting an event/space tailored to their needs.

I come from a very entrepreneurial family, all of my grandparents have owned their own businesses. So, it felt very natural for me to start my own.

About a year after I partnered with my friends in their event planning business, I broke off to start my own company. I come from a very entrepreneurial family, all of my grandparents have owned their own businesses. So, it felt very natural for me to start my own. KMK Design was born. By the time KMK Design was up and running, my Grandma had passed away. I think of her a lot when I’m working on projects and often try to channel her talents. My business makes me feel as if her legacy is living on.

I still can’t believe my passion has turned into a successful business.

After nearly nine years in the events industry, I still can’t believe my passion has turned into a successful business. I thank my lucky stars that I am able to do what I love everyday. Yes, there are stresses, there are headaches, and there are bad days. But, the gifts that this business has given me, both personally and professionally, make it all worth it. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and what else I am able to accomplish.
xo,
Kirsten
